Hi, I’m Michaela. I’m a community development worker, Mum, and your Greens candidate for the Walter Taylor Ward in the 2020 Brisbane City Council election.
I grew up in this beautiful area, and now I’m raising my family in Indooroopilly. I’ve watched our community change, and seen how poor development decisions have led to congested roads, overcrowded schools and vanishing green space and wildlife. Like most locals, I feel shut out of local government decisions.
We don’t have to put up with this.
In 2017, the west side elected our first ever Greens representative, Michael Berkman, to the Queensland Parliament. With a Greens MP, we saved Mt Coot-tha from Council’s dodgy zipline proposal, we got commitments for green bridges at Toowong & St Lucia, and we showed how genuinely democratic, sustainable and fair politics works.
Walter Taylor residents deserve public infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing suburbs. They deserve more beautiful, public green spaces, safe and accessible streets, and opportunities to connect with and support our neighbours and local businesses. They deserve representatives who will listen to them and plan for thriving, sustainable and resilient cities of the future.
Imagine what the western suburbs could do with multiple Greens representatives working together.
As your representative in Council, I’ll stand up for people, not profit. I’ll give locals a real say in decisions about our neighbourhood and how we plan for the future, with rapid densification and the impacts of climate change. I’ll ensure our thriving community is active, sustainable and connected.
