Brisbane City Council is finally upgrading the dangerous, confusing roundabout at Coonan St and Moggill Rd in Indooroopilly. They must take this opportunity to plan for the future with upgrades that prioritise public and active transport, including safe connections for cyclists, pedestrians and e-scooters.

There are multiple high density developments already approved nearby, and the area is zoned for significant development. Council must consider adequate public and active transport infrastructure for future populations.

Residents have a number of concerns with the way Council is approaching this intersection upgrade:

- Consultation was rushed and inadequate. They only provided residents with two options to choose from, and decided on their preferred plan more than a month before consultation was meant to finish.

- Council's design has not considered active transport. There is no indication of low stress, high quality, separated cycling facilities for all ages and abilities, as required under the Principal Cycle Network Plan.

- The upgrade ignores long-standing State transport plans for dedicated bus lanes on Moggill Rd, with no new bus lanes or stops

- Council sold the upgrade as a "congestion buster", but it will actually only save car commuters 8-16 seconds, and does nothing to get cars off the road by encouraging public and active transport

Sign our petition for Council to listen to the community, plan for the future and include proper public and active transport infrastructure as part of its upgrade.

PETITION TO: BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL

Upgrading the Coonan St/ Moggill Rd intersection without adequately allowing for future public and active transport would be an expensive wasted opportunity. Council's current plans are dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians, and were not properly consulted on.

Your petitioners request that Council develop a plan to upgrade the intersection that:

- Allows residents to provide genuine input

- Includes low stress, high quality, separated cycling facilities for all ages and abilities, along Moggill Rd and along or parallel with Coonan St, as required under the Principal Cycle Network Plan

- Does not include slip lanes which are dangerous to cyclists and pedestrians

- Includes dedicated bus priority lanes on Moggill Rd to get the 444, 435, 430, 450 buses and others moving faster

- Prioritises safety for pedestrians and e-scooters including students travelling to and from local schools
